What’s it like for a woman to have a successful career in a STEM field and then switch careers for another STEM profession?

Find out from the BPL’s very own Dr. Valarie Ahlstrand, AuD. (Val works at the BPL as a Library Assistant.)

In her first career as a Metallurgist and Quality Director, she was responsible for the chemical quality of metal castings, developed specs for metals, and completed purchase agreements for raw materials.  Dr. Val has published professional articles and made presentations at national and international professional conferences.  THEN she decided to change careers and became an Audiologist after completing her doctorate.  Now she helps people through diagnostic hearing tests, fits them with hearing aids, and works with patients who have balance issues related to hearing loss.
