Grief Support Group
November 7 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Emily Kahn, MSW, hosts a free weekly support group for anyone seeking companionship, compassionate understanding, and community in shared grief. Emily is on the Bloomsburg Public Library social work staff team and has years of experience guiding people through end-of-life issues. She strives to increase comfort when talking about death and dying. Bibliotherapy – the use of books and stories to support mental wellness – will be a feature of this group.
Although grief – including anticipatory grief – is unique to the individual, it is often made more bearable when shared with others. Bereavement is complex. The emotional aspect is unpredictable and nonlinear. It can be confusing, surprising, and isolating. There are also logistical challenges that must be handled, such as finances, wills, death certificates, etc. This can be overwhelming, but dealing with these challenges is relatable to anyone who has experienced a similar loss.
This program is not religious in nature. People of all faiths or no faith are welcome as they are to speak from their own experience.
Attendees will be expected to maintain strict confidentiality. Nothing shared during a group session may be shared outside of the group.
Emily is also available for one-on-one appointments. Email her at emily@bloomsburgpl.org or call the library at 570-784-0883.
